Since September 2013, the government has provided additional funding to enhance the provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding—jointly provided by the Department for Education, the Department of Health, and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport—is allocated to primary school headteachers based on the number of pupils in Years 1 to 6.
Vision
All pupils leaving primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport
Objective
To achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of PE and sport in primary schools. We would expect indicators of such improvement to include:
- the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick-starting healthy active lifestyles
- the profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement
- increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
- broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
- increased participation in competitive sport
Hunts Sports Partnership
We use our additional funding to purchase support and services from the Hunts Sports Partnership. This is used to:
- develop teachers’ skills, confidence and expertise across all Key Stages to ensure that we can deliver high quality PE and Sports provision to all of our pupils. Our intention is that improvements in teaching and organisation of PE at our school are embedded and sustained in the future
- provide access to sports festivals and participation in a range of inter-school competitions for all year groups
- support additional, extra-curricular clubs for all year groups such as multi-skills clubs and after school netball, football, cricket, dance and gymnastics clubs
- enable all Key Stage 2 classes to access blocks of weekly swimming sessions taught by qualified teachers.
